As I have now finished those two strategy books, my objective is to complete a CAT on 20.03 or 21.03 in order to gauge my level, and define the sequence of the MGMAT Strategy Guides. I'll do a GMATPrep CAT and will report my results in the next days.

Prior to that I just wanted to state some more questions. Hope you're going to be able to help

1. How do you learn idioms? Flashcards - paper or e-versions? I just struggle with this, because it would take much time adding all idioms no matter if on paper or on my phone (as mentioned I currently have 70 pages of idioms from the Verbal Foundations and, as far as I know, there are more to come from the SC, RC and CR strategy guides)?
2. How do you handle new words in fiction? I just started with "To kill a mockinbird" by Harper Lee and I seem to have some words I don't know? Is it better to try and understand them from context (not look up from dictionary and write them down) or still start a list (words, example sentence and translation/explanation) for all unknown words? Flashcards could also be an option. What do you think?

Regards,

Regards,

I use hand written flash cards (blank visiting cards) , with 10 idioms on one side. The point is you already know some idioms, so you can skip them and keep the tough/confusing ones. Idioms from CR/RC are going to be less useful as the focus is on "prepositional idioms". Keep adding idioms you find in SC questions. The point is to learn the idioms, how you learn depends on you.I would not suggest spending too much learning new words.Just keep a note of words you find in editorials etc.

Ok guys :) Here I am with the results. I still hope that someone would like to comment on the above questions.

Regarding my first CAT - I'm not sure if the result is good or not, but I think its a good basis, on which I'm going to build in the coming two months. Until know, I've just completed both books: MGMAT Foundations of GMAT Math and MGMAT Foundations of GMAT Verbal.

My score breakdown of my first GMATPrep CAT:
Score: 610
Quantitative: Q40
13 questions incorrect
PS: 8 MISTAKES - 1 (exponents), 1 (x,y,xy), 1 (integer k btw. 1 and 10), 1 (Geometry triangle), 1 (integers, exponents), 1 (integers, operations), 1 (y-intercept), 1 (History, English, Maths majors);
DS: 5 MISTAKES - 1 (x<20), 1 (if x=, y=), 1 (apples, peaches), 1 (mean integers), 1 (s and t are different numbers, s+t=0);

Verbal: V34
13 questions incorrect
SC: 7 MISTAKES
RC: 3 MISTAKES
CR: 3 MISTAKES

And the question is: Which sequence of books to apply from now onwards? I have 7 MGMAT Strategy Guides (all except CR) and just Powerscore's CR Bible :) My strategy: Start with the weakest area - one topic at a time (approx. 1 week), take notes, have an error log for MGMAT and OG questions; and then move to the next weak area, where I still want to dedicate some hours per day to questions from the previous areas.

How would you structure it?

+1 kudos to you for the dedication.
You must ASAP start with the mgmat SC guide.
maintaining an error log is must and weekly reviewing is equally important.
Rest your plan is correct and well discussed previously.
Good luck buddy.

I don't think you should over-complicate things with multiple classes etc...I vote for selecting one class, taking it seriously, studying hard and then getting a good sleep before the test. I have to confess I did not get a 740, I got a 720, but some of these study plans are exhausting just to read about. I think you can psych yourself out!

Non native speakers have trouble moving straight to OG 12 SC, as an accuracy less than 80% can be detrimental to the confidence. Practicing from these sources, improves accuracy. Practicing chapter wise as given in Manhattan SC is counter productive in my opinion. This is because OG contains several errors together, and if you are focusing on one error you have a higher chance of missing the question. Also reading the explanation from OG will not make much sense as they will explain all the errors.

The most important thing is to finish OG12/0GV2 as the most difficult questions are in the last 25% . Also these are the 700+ questions types that you are going to face in actual exam

I'll share my experience with SC. First of all, the grammar rules are not so hard to learn. The problem comes when you have to apply these rules for a very short time. Covering piles of "indispensable for a 700+ score" books, in my opinion, is a counterproductive approach, since they convey the same basic material, but with different words. Practising SC question is much more important than checking things you've already known. I've read MGAMT SC Guide and unfortunately the "before and after" effect was not so visible. Only when I stared to do the OG Questions again have I begun to improve my wrong/right answers ratio even with new questions. In this regard, it is better to take some questions again and again until you completely understand their logic and structure, with the caveat that you don't remember the exact answers. Gallopping over hundreds of questions, without understanding their entire logic is a waste of both time and unique questions.

If you do a lot of SC, you will be accustomed to its pattern . THe average time should be spent on SC is under 1 minutes and the gain in this section will help you get more time on difficult RC and CR.
Why don't you try SC1000..? In my opinion, it's quite good ( although some questions are debatable).

OG 13 has only 200 additional questions but you can get 400 questions on mba.com for 25$.
I heard something good about SC grail , but I do not buy it as I am bankrupt :D, anyway if you can afford it, buy it.
SC1000 is free.....

hellscream,
personally speaking, I do remember the patterns, but not the exact answers. Maybe I don't have a long memory and maybe this approach is not suitable for people who have it. But it works perfectly for me, since we do aim at mastering those patterns. Moreover, I strongly believe that if you re-check a particular type of discrepancy in a pattern constantly, you'll become faster and faster in spotting it on the real exam. Thus, it is not without a reason to take a look over questions that you find interesting from time to time. For this purpose are flashcards created, aren't they ? :)

I find myself a little slow in CR. When I focus on timing more, I find my accuracy even more worse. But, I have just started working on CR. So do I have to focus on getting the answers/concepts right originally before focusing on speed or do I have to focus on timing first?

Which books do you use for CR?
Accuracy is the most important thing. You should focus on the concepts and answers first. There is no point in rushing doing the questions and in the end you understand or gain nothing. With practice, you will be familiar with the pattern, leading to higher speed while maintaining the accuracy.
Review your mistakes, weaknesses as well as your strengths regularly.

Yes, it is.... It gives more details about the type of questions you can expect on the real GMAT in a very clear way.

Thanks a bunch! You suggest going through this before moving onto OG12 problems?

Yeap.. Read through it, do the examples and memorize the fundamental concepts. Then jump to do OG , follow the steps you learn. If you still can not solve it, return to the question types and review before asking for help or looking at OG's solution. This pattern will make you be familiar with the question types and the way to solve the problems... Hope it helps.
