Hey guys,

Here is my score for my only exam taken to date. I could not believe my IR and AWA scores, which practically ruined the 760 for me.

760: Q49 V45 IR6 AWA4.

Should I retake because of IR 6 and AWA4???

I am planning on applying to top 5 schools only and now I'm really worried this will affect how adcoms see me.

Any input from you guys would help!!!

Hi Neo,

You had an amazing.I am not an expert so cant help regarding your query.

But, can you please suggest how did you prepare for Verbal.

Did you take up any course?

What worked for you and what didnt work for you?

This would be really really helpful for folks around who are struggling with verbal as well.

First of all, you should be proud of yourself for that great, oustanding score. Congrats!!

Your IR score is not problematic.

However, a 4 in AWA might raise concerns whether you wrote your essays and personal statements on your own (if they are really good, given the discrepancy to your low AWA score). So that could indeed raise a red flag, although you're verbal score is good enough to make the AdCom think that you were too exhausted or lazy to write a good essay rather than unable to do so. But still, it's possible that your AWA constitutes a problematic element within your application to Top Bus Schools.

So you might want to retake your GMAT, but only if

a) you have enough time
b) you are sure that you can achieve 760+ again -> most schools will consider the test with the best overall score, not the most recent, so in order to make that happen, you must score at least 760 again.

I would retake the exam because of the sub-par AWA score. Even if you do get a lower total score, as long as you get at least a 5 on AWA the adcom will not question your ability to write in English and will use the higher score in their admission decision anyway. This does not apply if you are a native speaker. If you are a native speaker and have a decent college GPA, don't worry about AWA.

Hi
Congrats on a great score in the GMAT.
An IR score of 6 is good and will not effect your overall assessment.
There is no need for a retake. You should start working on your applications.
All the best.
