I retook the GMAT yesterday and scored 760 - 44V/49Q
This was my second time sitting for the exam - the first time I scored 710 - 47V/40Q.
I'm quite proud of the improvement in my quant score - I reached the goal I set for my studies in the intervening month and a half between the tests. The following are the most relevant of the resources I used:
OG Quant supplement (I'd already exhausted the OG main book)
Manhattan GMAT math topic books (invaluable)
Math Builder for Standardized Tests (by REA)
I have big gaps in my math education - its not that I just forgot this stuff, rather there's lots I never learned. Because of this, going through the math builder was of major importance. That book helped really nail down all the little details that were causing me problems. I also bought Ultimate Math Refresher for GRE, GMAT, and SAT, but never got to it. I've heard it does the same basic thing as Math Builder.
As I said above, the
Manhattan GMAT books were invaluable to me. I was not approaching the test from the strategic standpoint of trying to fool it into thinking I knew more than I did. I really wanted to master the concepts, and the
Manhattan GMAT books (in combination with the OG Quant questions listed in the back of each
MGMAT book) really helped me do that.
The drop in my verbal score is regrettable and a little surprising - this was the first time I scored below 99th percentile on verbal in practice or on a test. However, I'm not going to let that trouble me. Virtually all of my energy was focused on the quant side, so I really can't complain about the verbal drop.
Thanks everyone for all the inspirational and inrformative posts here. I quite enjoyed coming on the forums.
