770 but 4 in awa. Retaking?

Question

Hello, guys. I got the results two weeks ago with a 770 in total. But a 4 AWA is really what I'm worrying now. Do you guys think I should retake it.

Wow, first of all Congrats on your 770!

As for the 4 in your AWA - unless you've done a terrible job in your Verbal section (which as per your score of 770, is impossible) - the AdCom's will figure that it was just a one-off thing which happens from time to time. Make sure your essays are crisp and your overall application solid - and you'll blow your way into an Elite B-School with ease. G'luck!

wow - how did you manage those 2 scores? (what a combination).

Did you really butcher AWA? The 4.0 will attract attention (mostly due to 770 and not to 4.0), so the adcoms will read your AWA essays - is there anything there you are concerned about?

By the way, you can appeal your AWA scoring with GMAC - you should do that - worth the shot to have your essays re-read.

P.S. Yes, longer essays get higher scores usually.

Personally, I would not retake and risk losing your 770 score because of a low AWA score.

Have you taken the TOEFL, too? I'm asking because a high score in the writing section might help.

Coming to the point of retaking or not , I personally wouldn't . See it this way suppose you score say a 740 with a awa of 6 , would you put that in your application instead of a 770 with an awa of 4 ? unless you're supremely confident of replicating your 770 score , there's no point in retaking
