By the way, you can appeal your AWA scoring with GMAC - you should do that - worth the shot to have your essays re-read.

P.S. Yes, longer essays get higher scores usually.

Personally, I would not retake and risk losing your 770 score because of a low AWA score.

Have you taken the TOEFL, too? I'm asking because a high score in the writing section might help.

wow first of all congrats on your 770 score !
Coming to the point of retaking or not , I personally wouldn't . See it this way suppose you score say a 740 with a awa of 6 , would you put that in your application instead of a 770 with an awa of 4 ? unless you're supremely confident of replicating your 770 score , there's no point in retaking
