Hi miquelj,

Since May 8 is just a day away, could you let us know whether you decided to sit for the May 8 exam? If you do take the GMAT, then please reach back out to let us know how things went. If you need to retake, we can figure out a plan then.

Good luck!

Hey Scott, I have just seen your post.

I finally decided to do it yesterday, and it went well, I got a 720(48Q,41V), but it left me a little unhappy as I felt that I could do it a little better on the Quant section.

My quant scores on gmat prep are 49, 50 and 50, so 48 is my lowest score... I got a lot of geometry questions (I think that up to 6), and geometry is my weakest area.

I know that 720 is a good result, but idk if Q48 is a good enough score in order to apply for a MSc Finance, as it is just percentile 67.

What do you think?

By the way, thanks to TTP in general and to you in particular, without you those quant scores would be a dream, and now they are real

Hi miquelj,

First off, a 720/Q48 is an outstanding score, so you can comfortably apply to any Schools that interest you. As such, a retest might not be necessary. You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

Hi miquelj

720 is a good score and V41 is really good.
you can always go for a second attempt since improving quant is way easier than improving verbal

Thanks

Thanks!

The thing is that I'm going to do a Ms Finance, so maybe 48Q could be an issue, don't you think? Also I think that the score is not well balanced (percentile 67 vs 90)... What do you think?

Hi miquelj,

Finance Programs do tend to place a greater emphasis on each Applicant's Quant Scaled Score, but a Q48 is NOT a 'bad' Score. Since you're concerned though, you would likely find it beneficial to discuss your overall profile and applications plans with an Admissions Expert. If those Expert(s) INSIST that you have to retake the GMAT, then you should follow their advice. The difference in the percentiles is really about how the bulk of Test Takers perform at a higher level in the Quant section than they do in the Verbal section (thus, the percentiles can sometimes appear 'skewed').

For some academic programs, the expected Q score is much higher than for MBA programs, but it depends entirely where you're applying - some programs will only want to see a Q50 or Q51, and others will accept much lower scores. You shouldn't even take advice from Admissions Consultants on this forum, because they'll often be knowledgeable only about MBA programs. You should either do some research to discover what score you need for the specific program you're applying to, or if you can't find that information, you should contact them directly so you can learn if you should take the test again. Otherwise you'll just be guessing.

As for the score split, your Verbal and Quant percentiles are actually very similar (and both are very good) if you're comparing yourself only to applicants in either Europe or the Americas, so they're much more balanced than they seem (but balance won't likely be important anyway for an academic application in Finance - they'll want a high Quant score).

Hi miquelj,

A 720 with a Q48 is a great score! I’m thrilled that TTP was able to help you achieve such an awesome quant score. That said, before you decide on a retake, I agree that you should reach out to one of the many admissions consultants here on GMAT Club to get an opinion on whether you need to retake the GMAT. If you do decide to retake, please reach back out, and we can discuss a game plan.

Good luck!
