Hey there
prefshares. I like your username! Appropriate for a message board.
Congratulations on a fantastic overall score. So my experience is that the IR is not that big a deal if your overall is high, especially if you have a 4.0 GPA. In the early days, those IR scores were all over the map. In more recent years, they are certainly considered, but I've actually seen them more as a different thing - a signal on the other side, if a school takes the Executive Assessment test, to suggest that a low overall scoring person should switch to the EA if the IR is high (the EA scores hinge off the first section, which is IR). In my experience, a lower than average IR will be noticed, but ultimately if everything else is strong, shrugged off. I think with a 4, you are in OK territory.
My one caveat to you, though, is that fantastic stats alone unfortunately will not smooth your way into H/S. They can help, especially at programs BEYOND H/S, but you have to bring the goods in your essays, interview, etc. I also think they can be skeptical of hedge fund applicants-- you really don't always need an MBA for that path. So make sure to really bring your whole self to the application, and help them see you as more than just your stats....what motivates you to apply, what are you trying to do in the world? Happy to discuss in more detail via a consultation if that would be helpful to you.
Warmly,
Julie-Anne
