Do they allow the test taker to go to the bathroom during the 8 minute breaks in between sections?

Show your whiteboard to the camera before you get up and you can use the restroom assuming this is GMAT Online

I will be taking it in person in February. Not going to bother with the Online version, it seems to have some issues associated with it based on the little I have read

Then you can definitely go to the bathroom. Just make sure you do not touch your phone or notes during the break. You will have to pee fast as checkin/out takes time.

Right, of course. Ten years ago when I took the GMAT and scored a 700 I used a strategy of drinking a moderate amount of fluid beforehand and holding in my pee for the duration of the entire test (and this was when the test was longer than it is today). This created a sense of "alertness" and "urgency" which helped me to manage my time better, but the downside was that it was really hard to hold in my pee for the whole test.

This time around, I am just going to drink coffee on the day of the test. So if I need to use the bathroom during the break then I may do so quickly.

Yes sir that was the debrief from a decade ago. Amazing that you found that! I was looking for my score breakdown recently and could not find it-- so thank you! I only took the test once, did not do very much prep (just a couple official GMATPrep exams) and only applied to one school at that time (top tier), and did not get in. It was not the right time for me to apply anyways, life situation was not very good. So here I am a decade later, preparing to do things (hopefully) the right way.
