A bag consists of 20 marbles, of which 5 are blue, 9 are red, and the remainder are white. If Lisa is to select a marble from the bag at random, what is the probability that the marble will be red or white?

A. 3/4
B. 2/4
C. 1/4
D. 1/8
E. 1/16

Blue- 5
Red- 9
White- 6

Probability of picking red marble= 9/20
probability of picking white marble= 6/20

probability of picking red or white marble= 9/20+6/20= 15/20= 3/4

A is the answer

Total number of marbles = 20
number of blue marbles = 5
number of red marbles = 9
number of white marbles = 6
probability of selecting either a white or red marble = \(\frac{15}{20}\) = \(\frac{3}{4}\)
Correct answer - A

can we also solve this question as the below?

Total marbles =20
Blue=5
Red =9
White=6

Probability of Red is 9/20
Probability of White is 6/20
Probability of Blue is 5/20

Probability of not Blue = Probability of Red or white.
1- Probability of blue= Probability of Red or white.
1- 1/4= Probability of Red or white.
3/4= Probability of Red or white.

Hence (A)
