Let the marbles in larger group = x
=> x + x-16 = 2x-16 = 60
x=38

A. 16

We can let n = the number of marbles in the second (or smaller) group and create the equation:

n + n + 16 = 60

2n = 44

n = 22

So, the first (or larger) group has 22 + 16 = 38 marbles.
