Step 1: Analyse Question Stem
- • Let a and b be the number of cupcakes and cookies sold.
- o Selling price of one cupcake = \($2\)
- Selling price of cupcakes = \(2*a\)
- Selling price of cookie boxes = \(15*b\)
- • We need to find the value of \(b\).
Step 2: Analyse Statements Independently (And eliminate options) – AD/BCE
Statement 1: Kevin Spent \($27\)
- • \(2*a+15*b = 27\)
- o The only possible solution is \(a = 6,\) and \(b = 1\). [a and b are positive integer]
Statement 2: Kevin bought 6 cupcakes
- • \(a = 6\)
- o We can’t find the value of \(b\) with this information.

Solution:
T = Total amount ($)
x = number of cupcakes
y = number of cookies
Statement 1:
T = 2x + 2y
27 = 2x + 15y (This might seem to need more information, but one of the common traps in DS is not considering integer constraints)
Consider integer constraints
27 can only be attained if x = 6 and y = 1 because if y = 2, then 15(2) = 30 which is > 27.
Hence, 27 = 2(6) + 15(1) ---> Sufficient
Statement 2:
We are only given information about the cupcakes. Not sufficient.
