Let the no of games the team will win be W

Total no of games = ( 60+32)=92
Total no of game won = (40+W)

Record= 75%
Therefore

{(40+W)/92}*100=75
Solve for W

W= 29
Ans should be B

(A) 26

(B) 29

(C) 28

(D) 30

(E) 32

The baseball team has won 40 out of the 60 games played.
Of the 32 games to be played, the team needs to win x games
out of the 32 games to be played, such that the overall record is 75%

\(\frac{40 + x}{60 + 32} = \frac{75}{100} = \frac{3}{4}\)

\(4(40+x) = 92*3\) -> \(160 + 4x = 276\) -> \(4x = 116\) -> \(x = \frac{116}{4} = 29\)

Therefore, the basketball team will have to win 29 of its remaining matches to have a 75% record for the season(Option B)

Solution

    • The number of games won out of 60 matches = 40

    • Number of games left to play = 32

      o Thus, total matches = 60 + 32 = 92

    • Number of matches that the team needs to win = 75% of total = 3/4 * 92 = 69

    • Thus, number of additional matches they need to win = 69 – 40 = 29

Correct Answer: Option B

Let’s express 75% as 3/4. We can let n = the number of wins needed by the team and create the equation:

(40 + n)/92 = 3/4

Cross-multiplying, we get:

4(40 + n) = 92 x 3

40 + n = 23 x 3

40 + n = 69

n = 29

Answer: B
