1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

P(Even) = P(2, 4, 6, 8) = 4/9
P(Prime) = P(2, 3, 5, 7) = 4/9
P(Even & Prime) = P(2) = 1/9

P(Even or Prime) = P(Even) + P(Prime) - P(Even & Prime)
= 4/9 + 4/9 - 1/9
= 7/9

a. 8/9

c. 2/3
d. 2/9

The probability of an even number is 4/9, the probability of a prime number is 4/9, and the probability of an even prime number is 1/9, so the probability of an even or prime number is 4/9 + 4/9 - 1/9 = 7/9.

Alternate Solution:

Among all the numbers between 1 and 9, the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 satisfy the condition of being either an even number or a prime number. Thus, the probability is 7/9.

Answer: B
