How did you assume that 1 box contains 500 pens? it is nowhere stated...


In this case, "pc" is referring to the variables Packages and Containers.. A bit confusing since it is a common abbreviation for pieces :)

1 Box = (# Packages in a box) * (# Containers in a package) * 500

2 Boxes = 2*p*c*500
2 Boxes = 1000pc

Plus 3 containers
Container = 500 units
3 Containers = 500 * 3 = 1500

Total of 2 Boxes and 3 Containers:

1000pc + (500)*3 = 1000pc+1500

Answer: C
