A Canadian conservation organization is trying to change the common view of screech owls as frightening creatures. The organization states that people fear these owls only because they are nocturnal creatures that make noises.
Which of the following, if true, would cast the most doubt on the accuracy of the organization's statement?
(A) Screech owls are continuing to lose nesting places such as caves and dead trees and are therefore appearing in more developed areas.
(B) Screech owls are the chief consumers of rodents and can help make their hunting areas more pleasant for people.
(C) Screech owls are considered frightening animals not only in Canada, but also in Europe and Central America.
(D) Although crickets and raccoons are nocturnal creatures that make noises, they are not generally feared.
(E) People know more about the behavior patterns of other greatly feared creatures, such as sharks, tigers, and bats, than they do about the behavior patterns of screech owls.
