Let the places be denoted by their first letters as S , L and F.
Given that F is between S and L.
Statement 1:
(1) The distance from Smithville to Ferristown is 3/5 of the distance from Smithville to Laredo.
let the distance from S to L be d.
distance from S to F is a.
so, the distance from F to L is (d-a).
a = (3/5)*d
(a/d) = (3/5)
Hence, insufficient
Statement 2:
(2) The distance from Ferristown to Laredo is 12 miles.
The distance from F to L is 12 miles.
Hence, insufficient
Combining Statements 1 and 2, we get
(d-a) = 2x = 12 miles.
x = 6 miles.
d = 5x = 5*6 = 30 miles.
