Given:
• A car got 33 miles per gallon using gasoline that cost $2.95 per gallon

To find:
• The approximate cost, in dollars, of the gasoline used in driving the car 350 miles

Approach and Working:
• The car got 33 miles per gallon
    o Therefore, to get 350 miles, the car need = \(\frac{350}{33}\) gallons
• As 1-gallon costs $2.95, the total approximate cost = \(\frac{350}{33}\) * 2.95
    o This can be approximated as = \(\frac{350}{35}\) * 3 = $30
Hence, the correct answer is option C.

These types of questions are based on units. It is important to understand the units available in the question and what would be the unit of the final answer.

We have 33 miles/gallon, 2.95 dollars/gallon and 350 miles, and we want our answer in dollars.

\(\frac{miles}{\frac{miles}{gallon}}* \frac{dollars}{gallon} = miles * \frac{gallons}{miles} * \frac{dollars}{gallons}\) = dollars

Therefore the value = \(350 * \frac{1}{33} * 2.95 = 31.28 \approx $30\)
