39 pounds --> 6 days
91 pounds --> x days

x = 91*6/39 = 14

the animal has already consumed food in 6 days so the the number of days for it's total consumption be 91 pounds is 14-6 = 8

" You can solve it without taking X "

39 pounds --> 6 days
1 pounds --> 6/39 days
52 pounds ---> 6/39*52 => 8 more days

My last step must be confusing !!

Just to remind you the question states -

Quote:
it continues to eat at the same rate

So, in 6 days it will consume 39 pounds and we will have 52 pounds left ( 91 - 39 ) and the rate of consumption 6/39 will remain the same )

Hence answer will definitely be (E) 8

We can create the following proportion in which x = the total number of days it will take to consume 91 pounds of food.

39/6 = 91/x

39x = 546

x = 14

Thus, it will take 14 - 6 = 8 more days to consume 91 pounds of food.

The animal eats 39 pounds in 6 days

Rate of animal food consumption is $$\frac{39}{6}$$ pounds/day

let x be the number of days animal takes to eat 91 pounds.

Since the animal continues to eat at the same rate, $$\frac{39}{6} = \frac{91}{x}$$

x = 14

How many more days = 14-6 = 8

Hence option E

Additional pound to be consumed=91-39=> 52 pounds

39 pounds consumed in 6 days
So, 52 pounds to be consumed in days=6*52/39=8 days
