A certain barrel is 1/5 full. When k liters of liquid are added to the barrel, it becomes 2/3 full. In terms of k, what is the capacity of the barrel, in liters?

A. 3/8*k
B. 7/15*k
C. 15/7*k
D. 7/3*k
E. 8/3*k

Let the capacity of barrel :- C

When k liters of liquid are added to the barrel, it becomes 2/3 full
Or, C/5+k=2/3C
Or, C= 15/7*k

Ans. (C)

Let assume the capacity be x.

\(\frac{1}{5}\)x + k =\(\frac{2}{3}\)x

k = \(\frac{2x}{3}\) - \(\frac{x}{5}\)

k = \(\frac{10x - 3x}{15}\)

k =\(\frac{7x}{15}\)

x =\(\frac{15}{7}k\)

The best answer is C.

Let the total volume of the barrel be 15 litres

Initially, the barrel was filled up to 3 liters then "k" liters liquid was added and the final volume becomes 10 liters, thus k = 7 liters

SO, The capacity of the barrel in terms of k ( =7) is 15/7 litres, Answer must be (C)
