Question

A certain circular area has its centar at P and as radius 4 and Points X and Y lie in the same plane as the circular area. Does Y lie outside the circular area?

1-Distance between point P and Y is 4.5

2- Distance between X and Y is 9

1. Because PY > r ---> Y lies outside the circle area => suff
2. It can be that Y lies inside the circle area and X outside or vice versa ---> insuff

A it is.

But there is no way that statement 2 is sufficient coz:

X and Y both can lie outside the circle area
X is inside, Y is outside
X is outside, Y is inside

Except that the question asks whether  X  lies outside the circle area.

This was on the GMATprep. I got it wrong and couldn't figure it out. They don't have any info on how to get to the answer but the answer is C in GMATprep.

I remember we did post this problem long long ago. Yes, the answer was C then but the question is about X or the 1st statement is about X instead of Y.

yeah, this question contains errors. The question should ask about X.
In case, the question asks about X, the answer is C.

I think some mistake in the question or possibly in GMATPrep :roll:

"A" should be it! Don't worry Zagros, just check once more & leave it!
