A certain club reported that the number of female members in 2000 went up 8 percent from 1999 and the number of male members in 2000 went up 2 percent from 1999. If, in the club, the total number of members in 2000 was up 4 percent from 1999, what is the ratio of the number of male members in 1999 to the number of total members in 1999?

(A) 1 to 2
(B) 2 to 1
(C) 2 to 3
(D) 3 to 2
(E) 3 to 4

OA is B

Posted from my mobile device
ans is C 2 to 3
its asking us men to total members
your process is right

Thanks! I missed that total, my bad! Updated

Could you solve this problem as though it were a weighted average problem?

We are told that the number of women increased 8% and the number of men increased 2%.

The average of 8% and 2% is 5%. We are told the increase of the total number of men and women is 4%. Therefore, we would expect there would be more men than women to bring the true average down from 5% to 4%.

8 - 4 = 4
4 - 2= 2
4 + 2 = 6

Therefore the ratio of men in the club to total number of members in the club is 4:6 -> 2:3

i used allegations, 2------4-------8 giving the ratio 1:2
