This question can be solved without the arduous calculation. Even though the answer options are close to each other, yet by a lil reasoning we can easily zero down on the answer.

The breakdown of 60 employees and their AVG salaries is as follows -

10 workers / $35 k , 35 workers / $30 k , 15 workers / $60 k

Only 15 workers have a salary that is double that of the remaining 45 workers.

Hence our total AVERAGE salary must be weighted towards the majority number value.

The AVERAGE salary of the 45 workers is 30k + 35k/2 = $ 32.5 K.

REMEMBER THIS IS THE AVERAGE SALARY OF THE 45 WORKERS. The weight of the other 15 workers with a 60k salary will pull the average above $ 32.5 K.

The only answer greater than $32.5 K is option B.

Options C and D are very close. They differ by only $500. Hence if we eliminate the answers above 40K, we must also include option C in the elimination.
