A certain organization has explicit rules for promotions and appointments. There are five salary grades: A, B, C, D and E with A being the highest. Three extracts from the rules are given.
-Promotion is automatic if the employee has spent five years at Grade D and there are no adverse reports about him or her and his or her age is above 35
-Promotion cannot be allowed if less than two years have been spent at Grade D
-The age restriction can be relaxed if two or three members of the promotion committee recommend the person strongly
-New entrants to the organization cannot be taken in at Grade C

2. For any employee joining the organization at age 24 at Grade D, what is the minimum number of years before he or she can reach Grade A. (Assume that the employee is in continuous employment, i.e. does not leave and rejoin at a later date)

We cant be sure for the first question that Sally can be promoted since it's not mentioned that she received any strong recommendation from 2 of 3 promotion committee

Explanation for Q1: Not a NECESSARY condition. Is it possible for Sally to be promoted from D to C? Definitely YES
Explanation for Q1: Norman can enter the organization at Grade D or C as well. Answer is NO
Explanation for Q2: Minimum 2 years is needed to be promoted from D to C. The current age then will be 24 + 2 = 26 years. From C to B the person needs to be at least 35 years of age, so 9 more years (35 - 26 = 9) is needed at least. From B to A at least 3 years is needed. So at least 2 + 9 + 3 = 14 years is needed to go from Grade D to Grade A for someone who joined D at 24 years of age!
