I'm normally a big fan of plugging in the answers instead of doing the Algebra, but the numbers on this one look like they are going to get a bit unwieldy, so let's do the Algebra.
Let's make C equal to the amount of the raise given to C-rated employees. The sum of the raises for C-rated employees is 150*C.
The raise amount for B-rated employees is 1.5C, so the sum of the raises for B-rated employees is 100*(1.5C), which is 150C.
The raise amount for A-rated employees is 2C, so the sum of the raises for A-rated employees is 50*(2C), which is 100C.
So all three groups' combined raises are 150C + 150C + 100C, or 400C. All three groups' combined raises are also $500,000. So, 400C=500000, making C=1250 (trap answer alert...don't get all the way here and then pick answer choice D!!).
The question asks for the A-rated raise. That's twice the C-rated raise, so we want $2500.
Answer choice E.
