He gets 1/4 of the total prize in cash which leaves the other 3/4 of the prize open. These 3/4 will be evenly distributed among the four prizes which makes each prize 1/4 of the remaining 3/4 of the prize. Therefore, one prize accounts for 1/4*3/4 = 3/16 of the total prize.
From the question stem we know that 35000$ = 1/4 or 4/16 (the cash) + 3/16 (one extra prize). Multiplying this by the reciprocal 16/5 we get the total price amount of 80000. -> C
