A distribution company is considering two warehouse-sorting systems, a conveyor system and a robotic system. The graph shows the projected cumulative net savings, in thousands of dollars, for each system at the end of each of the first 10 years after installation. Cumulative net savings equal the total operating savings generated since installation minus the total installation and operating costs incurred over the same period.
From each drop-down menu, select the option that completes the statement most accurately based on the information provided.
The greatest difference between the projected cumulative net savings of the two systems occurs at the end of the year after installation.
The projected cumulative net savings of the robotic system increased by the greatest amount during the interval from the end of year .

The greatest difference between the projected cumulative net savings of the two systems occurs at the end of the year after installation.
The projected cumulative net savings of the robotic system increased by the greatest amount during the interval from the end of year .
Official Solution:
Drop-down 1:
We need to compare the vertical distance between the two lines at each year.
The largest separation occurs at the end of year 5. At that point, the conveyor system has projected cumulative net savings of about -$14,000, while the robotic system is at about -$34,000.
The difference is about $20,000, which is greater than the separation at any of the other years shown.
Therefore, the correct selection is the 5th year.
Drop-down 2:
All five answer choices cover three-year intervals, so we can compare how much the robotic system's cumulative net savings changes from the beginning to the end of each interval.
The largest increase occurs from the end of year 7 to the end of year 10. Over that interval, cumulative net savings rise from about -$17,000 to $21,000, an increase of about $38,000.
None of the other listed three-year intervals shows as large an increase.
Therefore, the correct selection is 7 through year 10.
Correct answer:
Drop-down 1: "5th" Drop-down 2: "7 through year 10"
