Let's solve it in a different way

Add 6 ounces + 32 ounces = 38

So my ratio a:b will be such that a + b divides 38 equally

Looking at options we can see 14+5 = 19
But we have two options utilizing those numbers.

But if you look the ratios 1:2 of mixture 1 and 1:3 of mixture 2 then it's certain that coke will be higher

So correct answer should be 5:14 as ratio asked and given is rum : coke

Option B

(⅓ x 6 + ¼ x 32)/(⅔ x 6 + ¾ x 32)

(2 + 8)/(4 + 24)

10/28 = 5/14

Alternate Solution:

We start with 6 ounces of a drink that is ⅓ rum. We add it to 32 ounces that is ¼ rum. The result is a mixture of 6 + 32 = 38 ounces of x percent of rum.

Putting this information into an equation, we have:

6(⅓) + 32(¼) = 0.38x

2 + 8 = 0.38x

10/0.38 = x

Since the percent of rum is 10/0.38, then the percent of coke is 28/0.38.

Thus, we can express the ratio of rum to coke as:

(10/0.38)/(28/0.38) = 10/28 = 5/14

Answer: B

First the resultant mixture is 38 ounces.

First we will find rum and get coke weight by subtracting from mix.

From first 6 ounces , rum:coke = 1:2

So, rum is 2 ounces in this mix.

From second 32 , rum : coke = 1:3

So, rum is 8 ounces in this mix.

Total rum in mix = 10

So total coke in mix = 28

Ratio = 10:28 = 5/14 , B is correct
