A driver traveled from Haifa to Eilat. He covered a third of the distance at a speed of 75 kph (kilometers per hour), a fifth of the remaining distance in one hour, and the rest of the distance at a speed of 80 kph. The distance between Haifa and Eilat is 450 kilometers. If the driver had driven the entire distance at a constant speed, at what speed would he have needed to drive so that the journey from Haifa to Eilat would take exactly the same amount of time?

IMO Option B
D =450 kms
first 1/3 @ 75 km/h so time = 2 hrs
1/5 of remaining i.e., 450-150=300/5=60 kms in 1 hr
and reminaing i.e., 240 kms @ 80km/hr i.e., in 3 hrs
So total time = 6 hrs
we have to find the constant speed at which it will travel considering the time is same
so, d/t=s
450/6=75 km/hr

Given,
Distance = 450km
Speed1 = 75km/hr for (1/3)*450 = 150km
Time1 for 150 km = 150/75 = 2 hours ..........(1)
Distance2 for 1/5th of remaining = 1/5(300) = 60km
Speed2 = 80km/h
Time2 = 1 hr ........ (2)
Distance 3 = 240
Speed 3 = 80km/h
Time = 3hours ......... (3)
total time = 2+1+3 = 6hours
To cover 450 km at a constant speed in 6 hours,
we need to be at : Speed = Distance /time
450/6 = 75km/hr
Answer option B
