A farmer has a rectangular field that measures 1000ft wide by 2000ft long. There is an untillable strip 20ft wide on the inside edges of the field. In addition, there is a 30ft wide untillable strip bisects the field into two squares (approximate). Approximately what percentage of the field is tillable?

- (Area of the 2 boxes: 1930x960=1,852,800)
=(147,200)
therefore: 147,200/2000,000 = 7.4%

The closest from the answers is B.
My actual answer was approx 94.5%
Total tillable land = 2x (1000-2x20) x (2000-30-40)/2
= 2 x 960 x 965
% of Tillable land =(2x960x965x100)/(2000x 1000)
~ 93%
Although upon readig shampoo's approach, it seems it would be faster to compute the untillable land percentage and subtract to get the answer.
My actual answer was approx 94.5%
