A food scientist is preparing a formulation for a mixed fruit beverage containing only two fruit juices—orange and pineapple. Orange juice has a sugar content of 7 grams per 100 mL, while pineapple juice has a sugar content of 16 grams per 100 mL.

If the final mixed fruit beverage has a sugar content of 11.5 grams per 100 mL, what is the ratio of orange juice to pineapple juice in the mixture?

First we find each gram per ml for each fruit

Orange = 0,07 gr / 1 ml 
Pineapple : 0,16 gr / 1 ml 
sum of them is 0,23 gr / 1 ml

and the sugar mixed divide to total each sugar to get how many multiplies that combination

which is 11,5 divided by 0,23 gr is  50 times for each category

Thus this mixed : 
sugar : (0,07 x 50) + ( 0,16 x 50 ) = 11,5 gr 
juice : 50 x 1 ml + 50 x 1 ml = 100 ml

The fastest way to get to the answer by performing the calculation is to find how many mL of each juice you need to mix to get the final sugar concentration.

Let's say the volume of Orange juice = X
Then, the volume of Pineapple juice = 100 - X (since we know that together, it is 100 mL of mixed fruit juice)

Now, let's balance the amount of sugar:
7*X + 16*(100-X) = 11.5*100
1600 - 9X = 1150
9X = 450
X = 50

Therefore,  amount of orange juice in the mixture is 50mL & the amount of pineapple juice is also 50 mL.
