Commission per one bag: 3200/400=8

8 = 20% of the selling price

8=0.2x
x=40

Commission per bag \(= \frac{3200}{400}= 8\)

Selling Price \(= \frac{8}{20} * 100 = 40\)

0.2 * 400 * x = 3,200 --> 0.2x = 3,200/400 --> 0.2x = 8 --> x = 8 / 0.2 --> x = 40.

Answer A.

First find the commission earned per bag. If the retailer makes $3,200 from 400 bags, then it makes $3,200 400 = $8 from one bag. Now, we know that this commission is 20% of the cost of one bag, so let's set up an algebraic equation and solve for the cost. $8 = 0.20x, so x = $40, and the selling price of each bag is therefore $40. Choice (A) is correct.
