A geyser in Yellowstone Park spouts at regular intervals. The time elapsed between any two eruptions never varies. Will it spout more than 17 times in the seven day period beginning tonight at midnight?
(1) It spouted three times yesterday.

The geyser sprouts at midnight tonight.
Lets say the time interval is 10 hrs ..... hence yesterday the geyser must have sprouted at 2Pm and 2am , hence it didnot sprout thrice.
To sprout thrice the interval cannot be greater than 8 hrs.
If we take any interval less than 8 and calculate the number of sprouts ... it will be greater than 18.
2) It sprouts thrice day before yesterday.... this can happen when the interval is greater than 8hrs. lets say the interval is 9 hrs ...
The total number of sprouts not greater than 18
It can be greater than 18 with low interval.
hence not suff

from i, it took a min of 8(approx) or max of 12(approx) hours to sprout. if 8, total sprout in 7 days is>17 and if 12, <17.
from ii, same as above.
from i and ii, the maximum sprout interval time is 9.6 (2x24)/5 and min is 8. if it takes 9.6 hours, there are >17 sprouts. if it is 8, it is even >than 17.
