Hi,

I have a fairly good Undergraduate cgpa of 3.69 in Business Administration but scored very low in first attempt gmat quant 41 and verbal 22. How should I go about application?

Please help

Hi Sabnam,
You can get admission into MBA program with a 530 GMAT score too. But it all depends on your target schools and more importantly your post MBA goals. Look at your target school's class profile and average GMAT score. Where do you stand? Even if your GMAT score is low and you have some other X factor in your profile that distinguishes you from other candidates, you have a chance.
I see that one of your target schools is Manderson. Manderson's average GMAT score was 670 and the range was 600 min. So you get an idea where you need to be. I understand your situation and frustration but try hard and score north of 600 atleast.

As for going about your application, well, first decide whether you need professional help. Do you need to engage an admissions consultant? Feel free to shoot any other questions that you may have. Alternatively we can schedule a free consult call too.

Best,

Hi, SabnamShrestha,
The gmat score is quite low. Gmat scores make sense when you score minimum 650+. Please use the gmat club forum extensively to improve your gmat score. I would suggest you to follow all the manhattan guides for quant and verbal as well as CR bible for CR. Best wishes.

Thank you for suggestion. Will definitely prepare from these materials.

Hi and thanks for your question. A good GPA like yours will be helpful as at least you will not be double trouble... lower than avg GPA and GMAT. It is very hard to recover from the double trouble scenario. So focus on the positive- your good GPA! If you can consider taking the GRE, that might be a good workaround to the low GMAT. Or consider a GMAT course, or consider taking MBA Math to show that you are ready for the quant part of an MBA. Any of these could help- as well as having your WHY MBA/WHY NOW, and Why this school story down- and thoughtful career goals that a) build upon what you have done in the past and b) are realistic and attainable through an MBA program. If you can do all that, there will probably be some program that is willing to overlook the GMAT score! Best wishes to you and good luck and look into the GRE!

Hi,

A whole lot of MBA aspirants land up retaking GMAT. You are not penalized by business schools for retakes, even if you take it more than twice. So don't fret over your bad performance.
Analyse what went wrong in the first attempt and build yourself the right study plan. Take another shot at GMAT. All the best.
