My answer is C.

a - "developed only after when" sounds unidiomatic, plus it has passive voice
b - same as a, the right version should have been "developed only after Harry Truman supported..."
c - ok, no mistakes, something developed after something, parallelism is ok
d - too wordy and awkward
e - "there being" is unidiomatic

259. During Roosevelt’s years in office Black Americans began voting for Democrats rather than Republicans in national elections, but Black support for Democrats at the state and local levels developed only after when civil rights legislation was supported by Harry Truman.
(A) developed only after when civil rights legislation was supported by Harry Truman
(B) developed only after when Harry Truman supported civil rights legislation
(C) developed only after Harry Truman’s support of civil rights legislation
(D) develops only at the time after the supporting of civil rights legislation by Harry Truman
(E) developed only after there being Harry Truman’s support of civil rights legislation

I do not know the answer.. my guess is C
The Correct answer will be C.
A) Only after when - incorrect
B) Only after when - incorrect
D) at the time after the - incorrect
E) only after there being - incorrect
C) Makes the sentence clear and concise and the correct choice.

deepudiscover No, "support of" is correct. You can provide support to someone or something, but if we're not dealing with a verb (provide, lend, etc.), we use "of."

rocko911 "Only ___ when" isn't redundant. For instance, we can say "It only hurts when I laugh" or "You should only eat when you're hungry." However, "after when" is definitely redundant, or just wrong. Which one is it? After or when?

Hello abrakadabra21,

Of course with the given choices, the structure that you have mentioned in correct.

However, both the following constructions are correct:

X developed only after Y

X developed only when Y

However, we definitely cannot say that X developed only after when Y.

Hope this helps. :-)
Thanks.

look at e
after is a preposition and after "after", it is logic to show a point of time, and not logic to show a period. in E, a period is shown after "after". this is not logic. E is gone.

consider

after I am learning english, I go out for change.

this is not logic.

this kind of meaning error, similar to other meaning error, can be found if we use our common sense of this world. a concept is so simple but fatally important.

No, it is not correct - a preposition MUST be followed by a noun (or a nominal phrase / clause). The clause "when civil rights legislation was supported by Harry Truman" is an adverbial clause, not a noun (or a nominal phrase / clause).
