A. and they are at least 25 million years older than those of any similar dinosaur type that previously was > comparision issue, they refers to dinosaurs. comparing dinosaurs to fossils of similar dinosaurs. B. and that they were at least 25 million years older than any similar dinosaur type previously C. and the fossils are at least 25 million years older than any similar dinosaur types that previously were >comparision issue. comparing fossils to dinosaur types D. fossils that are at least 25 million years older than those of any similar dinosaur type previously > the two clauses here should be joined by a conjuction. E. fossils at least 25 million years older than similar dinosaur types that were previously > same issue as D.
A & B -- 'they' is referring to what? Paleontologists / Fossils ? C & E -- fossils are older than ..types? (fossils must be compared with dinosaur fossils not dinosaur types) D wins. 'those' clearly refers to the fossils of similar dinosaur type.
I am carefully guessing it as a resumptive modifier question. Can anyone confirm plz.

D should be OA
I think the second part is a more detail about fossils. D is the best.

D makes sense. "they" in A, B are ambiguous. C and E compare fossils to dinosaur types.
