Total bill = y

Number of friend will pay the bill = x - z

y/ x - z.

Solution

Given:
• Total number of friends = x
• Total cost of meal = y dollars
• z number of friends decide not to pay

To find:
• Amount paid by each of the remaining friends

Approach and Working:
• Number of friends, who pay = x – z
• Thus, amount paid by each of them = $$\frac{y}{(x – z)}$$

Hence, the correct answer is Option A

actual division y/x
since z friends backed out
so
left with x-z
y/x-z
IMO A
