(A) A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950 have gone to university-press books. Misplaced modifier, as "A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing" modifies "20 percent".
(B) A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, university-press books have won 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950. OK
(C) Increasingly influential as a large sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards since 1950 have gone to university-press books. Misplaced modifier. "Increasingly influential as a large sector of publishing" modifies "20 percent"
(D) Since 1950, a large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards have gone to university-press books.Misplaced modifier. "A large and increasingly influential sector of publishing" modifies "20 percent"
(E) Since 1950, university-press books, a large and increasingly influential sector of publishing, won 20 percent of all the National and American Book awards from then on.

Since & from then on are redundant.

I don't know how B is correct.

I think the subject of the sentence is " a large and influential sector". Therefore, it should be accompanied by a singular verb " has" not by "have".

But for the word " from then on" choice E is better than the other ones

Any thoughts???

Good point "unplugged"

IMO,
sub -"university press books" -->
A large and influential sector of publishing is modifier which modifies "universtiy press books" --
univesity press books -- must be singular (publisher name)

only E remains.

+1 for you.
