A line has a slοpe οf 1/6 and intersects the x-axis at (−24, 0). Where dοes this line intersect the y-axis?

A. (0, 3)

B. (0, 4)

C. (0, 5)

D. (0, 6)

E. (0, 7)

Equation of line: Y = mx + b, slope 1/6 and intersects the x-axis is (-24, 0)
Calculation gives us b = 4
Putting 0 for x gives us y = 4
so, Answer: B

Visualize the point (-24,0). Slope is rise/run. Go up 1 from the starting point and to the right 6 from there. You're at (-18,1). Repeat: (-12,2). Repeat (-6,3). Repeat (0,4).
Answer choice B.

If you get comfortable with visualizing (or doing a quick rough sketch) and thinking about what slope means, you probably don't need to do each of the "repeat" steps above, as you'd just notice that you need to go to the right 4x the denominator of the slope, so you're going to go up 4x the numerator.
