The \(x\)-coordinate of all points on a vertical line must be equal.

Then we have \(a = 2a – 6\) or \(a = 6\).

Therefore, C is the answer.

[GMAT math practice question]

A line passes through two points (\(a, -2\)), and (\(2a-6, 2\)). This line is parallel to the y-axis. What is \(a\)?

A. \(2\)

B. \(4\)

C. \(6\)

D. \(8\)

E. \(10\)

It took me 1minute 40seconds to think what is happening.

Finally realising that a=2a-6, giving us a=6. (This just took 13 seconds)
