I had something similar.

"I want to work with the faulty members in U of XYZ...."

I would never have known why/how I died if I had not corrected it in time.

And the shocking thing is that it was the 3rd and final reader ("vetter") of my essays that spotted this.

Agree with Rhyme's comment above. I read this twice and couldnt figure out the problem.. unltil i focussed on each and every word.
this is scary. rushing back to check all my essays :)

It's not actually that suprising. The mind works in wierd ways. Read the below...

For elxampe, if I wree to witre a senctene auobt snmteohig sutipd lkie tihs and jmblue up a bucnh of rnoadm wdors, im srue you wolud sltil be albe to raed it buasece yuor mnid wkors in raelly relaly wired wyas.

It's sgtrane and ueecpentxd but soemhow tihs is comptlley leiglbe to the aearvge prseon. Our midns msut be aizmnag. I solhud get itno Kleolgg for bieng albe to raed tihs.

That is so true. There was a study conducted (I think somewhere in Europe) that proved that human mind, when reading casually, reads only first and last letters of a word.

Actually that was an internet myth that started in 2003. A popular one at that.

For instance...
1) Big ccunoil tax ineesacrs tihs yaer hvae seezueqd the inmcoes of mnay pneosenirs

2) A dootcr has aimttded the magltheuansr of a tageene ceacnr pintaet who deid aetfr a hatospil durg blendur

Hard to read no? But they follow that rule.

(A doctor has admitted the manslaughter of a teenage cancer patient who died after a hospital drug blunder.)
(Big council tax increases this year have squeezed the incomes of many pensioners)

rhyme,

I know you are a smart guy but even smart people can be proved wrong sometime.  Though the above hypothesis not 100% true, its not a TOTAL myth. As far as english is concerned, this hypothesis is partly true with many other influencing factors such as some original order of letters, purpose of reader (proof reading or summary reading), knowledge of language, length of words and even the personal intrests of the reader.

Why Spell Check is BAD.

"I recall my trip to XXXX, and the children I tortured there. "

I just caught this one in one my essays.

See it? tutored... not tortured.

That was close eh? :)

I too enjoy torturing children.
