(Two chains can be connected by cutting open one link, inserting it through a link of the other chain and welding it shut again). Bumping for discussion. Try this one and get Kudos for a correct solution!!!!


He has to cut 6 chains and weld once for first and last one.
Total cost = 30 * 6 + 20 = 200

To minimize the cost, I will cut four links (3 of the first chain and one from the second chain) and will use these links to connect all chains. In this way, I will have to cut and weld only 4 times.

so the cost will be 30*4+20*4=120+80= 200

Answer will be B

What I understand is 6 chains need 6 links to connect them. And one weld is required to fix it at the junction of first and last joint.

So , 6*30+20*1 =200 is the answer.

But I came into this understanding only after seeing the answer. Not sure how to come to this conclusion if I didn't know the answer.
