A man travels 35 km partly at 4 km/h and at 5km/h. If he covers former distance at 5 km/h and later at 4 km/h, he could cover 2 km more in the same time. The time taken to cover the whole distance at original rate is?
I know the total distance is 35 km. Some of this was covered at 4km/hr and some at 5 km/hr so average speed would be somewhere in between 4 and 5 km/hr. Let's get the range of the time taken. If the entire distance were covered at 4 km/hr, time taken would be 35/4 = 8.75 hrs If the entire distance were covered at 5 km/hr, time taken would be 35/5 = 7 hrs So time taken is actually in between these two values (since average speed is between 4 and 5). Note that only option (C) lies in between these two values.
