A monkey is at the bottom of a 30 foot well. Each day he jumps up three feet and slips back two. At that rate, in how many days will the monkey reach the top of the well ?

A. 27
B. 28
C. 29
D. 30
E. 31

Each day it climbs 3 and slips back 2, effectively climbing 1 foot each day
Apparently it seems 30/1 = 30 days.

On the 30th day, it had first climbed up 3 feet and slipped two to effectively climb 1 foot and reach the top.

However, we should pause to observe that if it has already climbed out, why will it fall? So definitely it managed to climb up earlier than the 30th day.

Let's go back 4 days. After 26 days, it has climbed 26 ft.
Next day (27th), it climbs 3 ft (26+3=29) and falls 2 ft (29-2=27) - not yet there. It's at a height of 27 feet

On the 28th day, it climbs 3 (27+3=30) and reaches the top, so it has successfully climbed out - it won't fall back again!

So 28th day is the answer.
Answer B
