A movie theater sells two types of tickets: adult tickets at $6 each and children’s tickets at $4 each. If the theater sold 200 tickets on a given day, how many adult tickets were sold?

(1) The number of children’s tickets sold was 40 more than 3 times the number of adult tickets sold.
(2) The theater earned $400 more on the sale of children’s tickets than it did on the sale of adult tickets.

1. gives the equation.. 4C = 40 + 18A.
2. gives the equation.. 4C = 400 + 6A.

1) Sufficient since you have two equations and 2 variables
2) Sufficient since you have two equations and 2 variables

Both statements are sufficient to answer the question.

adult + child = 200

st1 40+3A+A=200
st2 C4-A6=400
