I think the answers have some typos. What is 'a' doing there ? We have no variable named 'a' in the question.

(Total area to be painted) / (area that can be painted with 1 barrel)
Total area to be painted in ft2 = 5280c x b/12
Area that can be painted with 1 barrel = a x 31.5
= (5280cb)/ (31.5 x 12a)
A is the answer
