A new wing is to be added to a certain hospital, creating 50 additional beds. What will be the new ratio of doctors to beds if no new doctors are hired?

1) The ratio of doctors to beds is currently 1 to 20.
2) There are currently 19 doctors employed by the hospital.

1) The ratio of doctors to beds is currently 1 to 20.
2) There are currently 19 doctors employed by the hospital.

(1) Let no of doctors = x, thus no of beds currently = 20x. When 50 beds will be added, no of beds will be = 20x+50. So new ratio will be = x/(20x+50). But this cannot be answered without knowing the value of x. Not sufficient.

(2) So there are 19 doctors, but no info on no of beds currently. so we cannot answer this. Not sufficient.

Combining the two statements, x=19, so the new ratio will be 19/(20*19+50) = 19/430. Sufficient.
