Probability of drawing error on 1st draw = 1/7

Probability of drawing error on 2nd draw = 6/7 * 1/6 = 1/7

1/7 + 1/7 = 2/7

hey, can you please explain, why on 2nd draw it is multiplied by 1/6 ?

6/7 is the probability of six error free payroll and 1/6 is the probability of that 'one' payroll with error.

Why '1/6' ???
Because without replacement means after first payroll is randomly selected from 7(1 error + 6 without error) second is selected from remaining six i.e. the first selected is not replaced in the cabinet to make it seven.

we can pick 2 records out of 7 in 7C2 = 21 ways
we can pick 2 records with NO errors in 6C2 = 15 ways

we have 15/21 = 5/7 of probability of picking without any error, thus we have 1-5/7 = 2/7 of picking with at least one error (in either the first or second draw)
