Let's redefine the week, the 6 days are w1, w2, w3, w4, r1 and r2, w- work, r-rest

His birthday was 42 "weeks" and 5 days ago, so if we know what day it is today, his birthday was the next day of the "week" (or the first day of the week if today is the last).

(1) Today was r2, so his birthday was w1- suff

(2) He worked 5 days ago - and as his birthday was exactly 42 "weeks" before 5 days ago, he worked on his birthday, too.

I get that the answer is D. I love this question! Did you make it up?

Source =>my friend.. he took GMAT last week..

A person works 4 days and then takes 2 days break, then the same pattern. If his birthday was 257 days ago, did he work on his birthday?

S1. Today is the second day of his break.
S2. He worked 5 days ago.

I think we can approach this as remainder problem.

w1,w2,w3,w4,b1,b2 => 6

S1. Today is the second day of his break. => sufficient
S2. He worked 5days ago..then his birthday was 257-5=252days ago from that day.
252/6 = 42*6 + 0.. thus sufficient....

D is OA.

4 possible scenarios
1   2   3   4
w1 w2 w3 w4 : w => if a person worked a day, he worked 6n days ago from that day.
w2 w3 w4 b1 : w or b
w3 w4  b1 b2 : w or b
w4  b1  b2 w1 : w or b
b1   b2 w1 w2 : w or b
b2  w1 w2 w3 : w or b

W W W W B B
Bday 257 days W W W W B B
(1) 252 days are evenly divisble by 6 --> W W W W B B(today)
remaining 5 days W W W B B

Hence his B day was on a work day

AD

(2) He worked 5 days ago W W W W W B(today)
or W W W W W B B(today)

guessing D
