Hi Everyone!I've been preparing for the GMAT for a little over a month and realized that I had not even looked at the AWA! After a bit of self-reflection I realized that I was subconsciously skipping the essay section (and IR) as I found it to be tedious. This led me to ask the question how am I going to prepare my essay writing skills without burning out?
Naturally, when faced with a tough question like this, I resorted to procrastination. As the owner of a website
(https://www.hznotes.weebly.com), my procrastination actually involves working on the site. When I say, "working", I mean that I start reading business articles from multiple sources, revolving around a single topic, something I very much enjoy doing. I then try to compile the work into a single article that will help me remember the theory behind it all. In some parts of the world, this is known as
taking notes (fun fact, my nickname is hz and these are my notes!).
What I started doing was to step away from writing down articles as just notes and started treating them like I was writing the AWA section. Of course, the GMAT doesn't just ask you to write a random essay, it has more to do with analyzing an argument. The AWA will ask you to
weaken/strengthen a
given argument so it's very important for me to be thinking critically and not just summarize what I read. Looking at multiple sources has also improved my vocabulary, comprehension and grammar (not to mention the huge improvement in face to face communication).
Now to the main point of this thread:
I run the website mentioned earlier and would like to welcome anyone to come over and practice their AWA. Drop by, submit an essay or help correct each other's essays. If you disagree with someone's work or anything, the comment section is open. As part of my own preparation for the AWA, I can offer to read your essay, provide basic proofreading and even publish it to the website for others to look at.
Disclaimer: My website is completely non-profit and I have a very strict policy when it comes to fair use and copyright. Full credit will be given to original authors. You can always start your own website, doesn't bother me at all. In fact, a community where people write and proofread essays sounds like a very feasible online business; one that I will not be pursuing.Sincerely,
