A plane is flying from City A to City B at m miles per hour. Another plane flying from City B to City A travels 50 miles per hour faster than the first plane. The cities are R miles apart. If both planes depart at the same time, in terms of R and m, how far are they from City A when they pass?

Speed of plane 1 = m
Speed of plane 2 = m+50
Time after which both planes meet = t = R/(m+m+50) = R/(2m+50)
Distance travelled by Plane 1 in time t = m * t = Rm/(2m+50)

SOLUTION:
Speed from A to B = m miles/hr
Speed from B to A = 50 + m miles/hr
Distance between A and B = R miles.
Relative Speed = m+(50+m)=50+2m
Time after which they will meet = Total Distance/Relative Speed = R/(50 + 2m) hrs.
[For two bodies with speeds x kmph and y kmph the relative speed = (x +y) when they are coming "towards" each other OR
In other words they bridge the distance of x+y km every hour when travelling from two different directions towards each other] ]
Distance from M when they Pass = Speed * Time = m * R/(50 + 2m).
= mR/(50 + 2m) miles. (OPTION C)
