A quality control analyst collected 200 measurements of length. The range of the 200 measurements is 17 centimeters, and one of the measurements is 49.5 centimeters. Which of the following could be another one of the 200 measurements, in centimeters?

I. 32.0
II. 33.0
III. 34.0

A. I only
B. II only
C. III only
D. II and III only
E. I, II and III

Solution:

If 49.5 cm is the largest measurement, then the smallest measurement is 49.5 - 17 = 32.5 cm, and any measurement between 32.5 cm and 49.5 cm could also be a measurement of the 200 measurements.
